Reprophotography

The archium photo studio for repro photography

What is repro photography?

The word reprophotography is a combination of the terms reprography, or repro for short, and photography. Reprography is a branch of reproduction technology that deals with light-technical processes for the reproduction of mostly two-dimensional originals, such as photographs, paintings, drawings or other works of art. Reproductions are made by printing, scanning, copying or plotting. Digitization has also changed the nature of so-called repros. By photographing objects with a digital camera, repro photos are created, which are mainly used for the digital archiving of valuable objects. At the same time, this creates a digital template that can be used to produce the best possible analog reproduction. This technology is therefore used in particular by archives, museums or private collectors of valuable works of art. Artists use specialized photographers of drawings and paintings to reproduce their works of art for exhibition in a variety of galleries. In our photo studio for reprophotography, we are set up to digitize movable objects. The works of art that are often exhibited in museums, such as valuable paintings, are usually not allowed to leave the exhibition venue. Photographers must take the photographs for a reproduction on site. This requires not only mobile equipment for lighting, but also another camera and a special lens. We do not currently offer this area of mobile reproduction photography.

How we work

Detail resolution and color fidelity

This image shows a comparison of the detail resolution according to DIN 19051 and the color fidelity according to IT8.7/2. It is a direct comparison between the limits of the resolution of a line scanner and that of our repro camera. You can find out more details about the comparison here.
